For nearly seven decades, Fr. Cobb was far more than a Jesuit priest—he was a dedicated teacher, trusted mentor, spiritual guide, coach, and friend. His life’s work profoundly shaped generations of students, alumni, faculty, and staff at Bellarmine College Preparatory, where his presence became a cornerstone of the community.
Fr. Cobb first arrived at Bellarmine in 1957 as a Jesuit scholastic, beginning a remarkable journey that would span almost 70 years. Throughout his time there, he served in many roles, including English teacher, coach, retreat leader, chaplain, and admissions staff member. He was especially passionate about helping first-generation college applicants, offering guidance and encouragement to students navigating new paths.
Even after stepping back from full-time responsibilities, Fr. Cobb remained a beloved and familiar figure on campus. He continued to attend events, connect with students and alumni, and greet everyone with his signature warmth, humility, and genuine kindness. His ability to remember names and make each person feel valued left a lasting impression on countless lives.
In a tribute, Bellarmine President Chris Meyercord reflected on Fr. Cobb’s gentle humor, generous spirit, and deep faith. He noted that every interaction with Fr. Cobb felt like a blessing, highlighting his lifelong mission to help others recognize God’s love.
